Dementia & Alzheimer's: A Family Guide

A high-level overview for families beginning the journey with memory loss — and how our care coordinators can help you find your footing.

Overview 2 min readUpdated May 29, 2026

A diagnosis of dementia or Alzheimer's disease affects the whole family. Memory loss usually develops gradually, and needs change over time — from occasional reminders early on to more hands-on support with daily routines later. There is no single right path, and what helps most depends on the person, the stage, and the family around them.

Families often find it helpful to learn what to expect, establish calm and consistent routines, make the home safe, and line up support before a crisis forces quick decisions. Because every situation is different, the best next step is a conversation with professionals who can look at your specific circumstances.
